This report, published by the NRDC in June 2006, looks at sustainable approaches to controlling stormwater in urban settings. Strategies such as green roofs, rain gardens, bio swales and more are discussed and analyzed for their cost effectiveness and ability to infiltrate stormwater back into a watershed. Multiple case studies are provided to illustrate the many benefits of managing stormwater using green techniques, which are designed to mimic the natural hydrologic cycle of a watershed and reduce the load on wastewater treatment facilities.
