Published by the U.S. Climate Change Science Program in June 2008, this report is a thorough, interagency synthesis and analysis of the impacts that climate change will have on the weather in the United States. The report concludes that, "In the future, with continued global warming, heat waves and heavy downpours are very likely to increase in frequency and intensity. Substantial areas of North America are likely to have more frequent droughts of greater severity. Hurricane wind speeds, rainfall intensity, and storm surge levels are likely to increase." Many other changes are expected to take place.
Given these grim weather forecasts, it is imperative for water managers and river advocates to be equipped with the best knowledge possible so they can prepare for the coming changes and possible harships of climate change.
